Mary Manier

Q & A with Mary Manier, director of sales, Experience Grand Rapids

Learn: Q: How do you learn best? By reading in a coffee shop with lots of noise or in a quiet, library-like setting?
A: I learn best in a quiet, library-like setting.

Network: Q: Some people are wallflowers while others are natural networkers. Which are you (or are you in the middle)?
A: I am in the middle. I survey the crowd before I jump in.

Transfer: Q: Let’s say you just attended a certification course. What would be your first step in applying what you learned?
A: When I get done with a session, I highlight my action items. When I get back to the office I look at my highlighted notes and start taking actions.

Q: Please share with us a must-have resource and why you just can’t live without it.
A: Google! I research potential associations, potential contacts and more.

Q: What is your favorite season…and why?
A: Summer – I love the water and sunshine!

Q: When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing the most?
A: Playing in the kitchen, entertaining and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy quiet time with a good book and usually have three books going at once (a fiction novel, a non-fiction biography or history and a cookbook). Dig that Kindle.

Q: What’s your favorite type of bird, and why?
A: A bluebird. We heard about the bluebird of happiness a lot when I was a child, and I like the concept. I try to bring happiness and fun with me wherever I go, with the possible exception of rush-hour traffic. Even the bluebird’s powers are limited.

Q: If you were a crayon, what color would you be, and why?
A: It’s impossible to choose! I do love a fresh box of 64 . . . all those beautiful colors and choices!  And don’t forget the built-in sharpener.

Q: If you were a candy bar, which candy bar would you be, and why?
A: Snickers. All those good things in a single package. Plus, I love things that make me snicker.

Q: You were just given a yacht. What would you name it?
A: In The Moment

Q & A with Cally Hill, Director of Client Relations

Q: When you’re not working for Event Garde, what keeps you busy?
A:  I enjoy spending time with my family and watching Tigers baseball.

Q: If you could meet one famous person, who would it be, and why?
A: Tom Hanks. He has been my favorite actor since he was on the sitcom “Bosom Buddies” in 1980.

Q: What song best describes your life, and why?
A: My favorite song is “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel because it is the first song I remember hearing as a kid and it reminds me of my dad.

Q: What is your secret talent?
A: I don’t have any secret talents, as I think they’re out there for everyone to see. (Editor’s Note: Cally is very skilled at making everything run smoothly. Her secret talent is definitely multi-tasking! – KP)

Q: Which color do you think best represents you, and why?
A. Orange. It’s a bold color that stands out.
